Do you find that your VPS or dedicated machine is regularly running out of memory because of cPanel? The following tutorial will help you overcome this, and help you to make your machine run faster.<\/p>

Stopping SpamAssassin<\/strong><\/p>

This program isn\u2019t overly important to the stopping of spam. To turn it off do the following:<\/p>

Go to WHM > Server Configuration > Tweak Settings > Disable Spamd<\/p>

And:<\/p>

Go to WHM > Service Manager > Disable Spamd<\/p>

Stopping Mailman<\/strong><\/p>

If you or none of your customers aren\u2019t running any mail listings through cPanel, it would be a good idea to disable Mailman.<\/p>

Go to WHM > Server Configuration > Tweak Settings > Disable Mailman<\/p>

Never Use Tomcat on a VPS<\/strong><\/p>

Never run TomCat on a VPS because of it\u2019s high RAM needs.<\/p>

Disable CatchAll<\/strong><\/p>

If you\u2019re undergoing a mail attack, catch all can use up many resources + storage. To disable do the following:<\/p>

Go to WHM > Server Configuration > Tweak Settings > Change to :fail:<\/p>

Tweak Apache<\/strong><\/p>

Apache can be quite a memory consuming monster on it\u2019s own. To tweak, do the following:<\/p>

vi \/etc\/httpd\/conf\/httpd.conf<\/p>

(Press \u2019shift\u2019 and \u2018i\u2019 to enable inserting\/editing.)<\/p>

Change the following settings:<\/p>

MinSpareServers 2
MaxSpareServers 5<\/p>

StartServers 3<\/p>

Save the file by pressing \u2018esc\u2019, then type \u2018:wq:\u2019, then hit return.<\/p>

After that, restart Apache: \/etc\/init.d\/httpd restart<\/p>
